An International Catholic Welfare Society, founded in 1833 by Frederic Ozanam then a young student attending the Sorbonne, Paris. He gathered around him a group of fellow students concerned with helping the poor and destitute of the city. From these early meetings grew one of the great lay organisations of the church. Our own Parish Conference at St Margaret Mary's was formed in 1936 and has remained an integral part of parish life ever since. In its lifetime the conference has been served by seventy members who have all attempted to emulate Ozanam`s ideals. Activities undertaken include visiting hospitals, the housebound and those in need. Supporting deprived children, enabling them to attend summer camps and distributing seasonal food parcels, furniture and clothing. We are twinned with two conferences in Kerela, Southern India who we help with their special projects. Our income is made up entirely by contributions received from our parishioners.
